Tom Holland is gearing up for back-to-back releases of his films, ‘The Odyssey’ and ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’. With promotions for the Christopher Nolan film already underway, the actor is now opening up about his journey in the film industry and his personal struggle with sobriety.
Tom Holland on his drinking problem
The star, in his recent interviews, got candid about his battle with alcoholism, revealing that overcoming his dependence on alcohol remains one of the most difficult challenges he has faced. During an appearance on Amy Poehler‘s ‘Good Hang’ podcast, the actor spoke candidly about his decision to quit drinking. “I quit drinking, because I had a problem and I just couldn’t put it down,” Holland confessed.“It was affecting my professional life, it was affecting my personal life, and my health. So I decided to pack it in and I got through that first year, which was the toughest challenge I had ever been on,” he added.
Tom Holland says he ‘drank too much’
He also reflected on his past drinking habits with ‘The Odyssey’ co-stars Matt Damon and Robert Pattinson. In an interview with GQ Pattinson shared his perspective on Holland’s early days in Hollywood. “I feel like he kind of lived out his sort of crazy years in the amount of time which you’re supposed to, which is maybe, like, eight years, and I really stretched mine out,” Pattinson said.Holland, however, shared a different viewpoint on that period in his life. He said, “I wouldn’t necessarily describe it as wild, and more at times lonely.” The Spider-Man star explained, “I had my times, but I wasn’t necessarily the nightclub-going person as much as I could sit at home in my hotel room and finish a minibar and go to work the next day. So my version of wild was very, I guess, un-Hollywood.”He went on to add, “I was always pretty sensible. I just drank too much.”
