Spoiler Alert: This article contains major spoilers for ‘The Boys’ latest season and series ending. Reader’s discretion is advised if you haven’t watched the show yet.‘The Boys’, which had become one of the most sought-after and popular shows in the past couple of years, has officially come to an end. As the last episode rolled in on the streaming platform, fans were left to deal with a lot of emotions.
What happens during ‘The Boys’ season 5, the last episode?
Titled ‘Blood and Bone’, the final episode of ‘The Boys’ saga brings in a whirlwind of emotions over the events of the show. One thing to note is that, unlike the Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson comics, from which the show was initially inspired, it had a completely different ending than that of the live-action show. The series came to an end with the inevitable showdown between Butcher and Homelander, which had been the main aspect to which the previous 7 episodes were slowly leading up to. As Homelander is all set to declare himself as the second coming of god from the Oval Office, The Boys derive a plan to sneak in and officially confront him.All thanks to Kimiko’s powers to blast off superpowers from anyone, the team officially strips Homelander of his power, and Butcher stabs him with a rod straight through his head. As they celebrate, Butcher tries to talk to Ryan, but the latter refuses, says he is still a bad person, and leaves. Butcher heads home to meet Terror, only to find that his dog has passed away.
Butcher is pushed to the brink and decides to use the supes virus
Pushed to the brink of it all, Butcher decides that it’s time to use the supes virus, also known as the Godolkin Virus. As he heads off to Vought Tower for the virus, Hughie realizes what he is about to do and tries to go and stop him. For the unversed, the virus can kill anyone with Compound V in their system, while normal human beings would have never been affected by it.Though Hughie tries to talk him out of it, Butcher denies it all, and the two battle it out in The Seven conference room. As Butcher overpowers Hughie and is about to shoot him with the virus, he thinks about his brother, hesitating. The moment is enough for Hughie to finally pull out his gun and fatally shoot Butcher. As he takes his last breath, he thanks Hughie for shooting him and says that he never would have stopped, lying in his last moment to save him.
The Boys go their own separate ways
As the gang officially buries Bitcher’s body and puts an end to the gruesome events, they all decide to head their own ways. As MM gets married, Ryan joins in on the ceremony as his best man. Kimiko, on the other hand, goes on to live her life, seeing all the places she and Frenchie always talked about visiting before his death. The ending also shows Hughie and Annie having a baby and opening up a store that Starlighter uses as a front to work as a supe. The series officially comes to an end after a lot of bloody and gruesome fights. However, many have revealed that the series finale is quite different, and in terms of the show and the comic books, less gory and bloody than what Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson’s comic books depicted. The comic ends with Black Noir killing Homelander, with Butcher killing Black Noir, Mother’s Milk, Kimiko, and Frenchie, though the part about Hughie being the one to end his life was taken in the series, just in a less grim setting.
