Big relief for JEE aspirants: IIT Roorkee opens counselling route for candidates below 75% marks in CBSE Class 12

The Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee has said that students who do not meet the minimum Class 12 marks requirement can still take part in the ongoing counselling for admissions. The institute, which conducted the JEE Advanced exam this year, said candidates with less than 75 per cent marks for General, OBC-NCL and EWS categories, and less than 65 per cent for SC, ST and PwD categories, are still eligible to fill their choices. It clarified that seats will be allotted based on JEE rank. The institute said, “You are eligible to fill in your choices at present and seats will be allocated to you based on your rank.”As per the existing rules for IIT admissions, candidates must have at least 75 per cent marks in Class 12 or equivalent examination for General, OBC-NCL and EWS categories, and 65 per cent for SC, ST and PwD categories. The institute also said that such candidates will need to submit a revised scorecard meeting the required marks criteria by July 15. It said, “You need to send the revised score card with at least 75 per cent or 65 per cent as per your category by July 15 through the email orgjee@iitr.ac.in.”It added that admission will be confirmed only after receiving the updated marksheet, and it will be given against the seat allotted at the end of the fourth counselling round. The update comes at a time when the Central Board of Secondary Education is facing questions over its on-screen marking system after some Class 12 students claimed discrepancies in scanned answer sheets and handwriting mismatches.
