NEW DELHI: The wait is over. The IPL 2026 season has reached its final destination, and fittingly, the two most consistent teams of the tournament will fight for the trophy.Defending champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru and former winners Gujarat Titans will clash at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Sunday night, with both sides chasing a second IPL crown. There is no second chance now. One team will complete a remarkable campaign with silverware, while the other will be left wondering what might have been.On paper, there is very little to separate the finalists. Both teams won nine matches each during the league stage and finished as the top two sides on the points table, with RCB edging ahead only on net run rate. Both teams won their respective home fixtures against each other earlier in the season.RCB may have gained a psychological edge after comprehensively defeating GT in Qualifier 1, but the final presents a different challenge altogether. This time, the Titans will play in familiar conditions in Ahmedabad, a venue where they comfortably defeated RCB during the league phase.Adding another twist to the contest is the contrasting preparation time. RCB have enjoyed nearly a week of rest after sealing their place in the final on Tuesday. GT, meanwhile, had to battle through Qualifier 2 on Friday and were further delayed in reaching Ahmedabad, arriving only late on Saturday evening.Whether the longer break helps RCB remain fresh or whether GT carry valuable match momentum into the final remains one of the biggest unknowns heading into the title clash.Two modern IPL powerhousesSince entering the competition in 2022, Gujarat Titans have established themselves as one of the league’s most successful franchises. Together with Rajasthan Royals sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi (776), they occupy the top tier of the batting charts.Behind them, Jos Buttler has added another 507 runs, giving GT arguably the most productive top three in the tournament.Their biggest challenge, however, arrives in the form of RCB’s experienced new-ball attack.Bhuvneshwar Kumar has enjoyed a sensational campaign, collecting 26 wickets from 15 matches and placing himself firmly in contention for a third Purple Cap. Significantly, 15 of those wickets have come inside the powerplay. His ability to swing the new ball and break partnerships early could prove decisive against GT’s formidable opening pair.Alongside him stands Josh Hazlewood, a bowler with an enviable record in major finals.
