Honey Singh opens up on life after divorce from Shalini Talwar, loneliness and heartbreak: ‘You came alone and you will leave alone’

Singer and rapper Yo Yo Honey Singh recently reflected on love, heartbreak, marriage and emotional healing, years after his divorce from former wife Shalini Talwar was finalised.Yo Yo Honey Singh and his first — and only — wife, Shalini Talwar, were officially granted divorce in November 2023. The couple, who were childhood sweethearts, got married in 2011. The separation brought an end to a highly publicised legal battle involving allegations of domestic violence, which were later withdrawn by Shalini following a private MoU settlement and an alimony payment of Rs 1 crore. Now, opening up about how the experience changed him emotionally, Honey Singh admitted that divorce taught him the importance of solitude and self-love.“You are alone and you have to be alone,” he said on ABtalks while speaking about what he learned after separation.

‘Now I like being alone’

Honey Singh revealed that both his marriage and divorce were “very different situations” in his life.“When I was sick, she was with me in the same house. But when I started deciding to step out of the house, then what you call conflict started between us and we separated,” he recalled. The singer admitted that the experience gradually changed the way he now looks at relationships and attachment.“Since then, I felt that I have to be alone. And now I like being alone. Because you came alone and you will leave alone,” he said.Honey Singh further reflected on how life eventually prepares everyone for emotional loss.“The harshest truth is that even the people who gave birth to you will not stay with you forever. I cannot even imagine living without them, but still I will have to live without them one day,” he shared.

‘Deep passionate love happens only once’

During the interaction, the rapper also opened up about love and heartbreak, describing love as one of the most beautiful parts of life.“Love is the most beautiful thing and the most wonderful thing. It is very important in life,” he said.Honey Singh explained that he now sees love beyond just romantic relationships.“Love with your mother, your father, your siblings, and even people you don’t know. When I perform at concerts, I see a different kind of love. I receive a different kind of energy and blessings from my audience,” he shared. At the same time, he admitted that intense romantic love only comes once in a lifetime.“Deep passionate love happens only once in life,” he said. When asked if he had personally experienced such love, Honey Singh responded, “Yes… and that chapter is over now.”

‘When I got sick, everybody left’

Honey Singh also got emotional while speaking about the loneliness he experienced during his health struggles and revealed that many people distanced themselves from him during that period.“For seven years, when I used to walk around as Yo Yo Honey Singh, there would be 40 boys and friends walking with me. It looked like a huge procession,” he recalled. However, things changed drastically after he fell ill.“When I got sick, everybody left. Only one person stayed — my childhood friend Rohit,” he revealed. The singer said the experience reshaped his understanding of relationships and emotional dependency.“When I came back, everybody started returning again. But now I realised that I have to be alone,” he said.

‘Don’t be ordinary people’

Towards the end of the conversation, Honey Singh also spoke about living life differently and breaking away from conventional thinking.“Don’t be typical. Don’t always think marriage is the only destination in life. Don’t think there’s a limit to what you can achieve,” he said. The rapper added that being “special” does not necessarily mean being rich or successful.“Even if you are unsuccessful but peaceful, happy and content, you are special,” he explained.According to Honey Singh, real emotional strength comes from finding peace within yourself.“If pain does not disturb you and living alone does not scare you, then you are a special human being,” he concluded.
