VIJAYAWADA: Andhra Pradesh chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu on Friday expressed concern over the state’s declining population growth, saying children should be seen as the nation’s “wealth” and not a burden. Speaking at the Swarna Andhra–Swachh Andhra programme in Narasannapeta, he said the demographic trend needed urgent attention. The chief minister also announced financial incentives to encourage larger families. The government will provide Rs 30,000 to families on the birth of a third child and Rs 40,000 for the birth of a fourth child, as part of its population policy push. Naidu’s remarks come amid broader discussions in several states about shifting population trends, including low birth rates and ageing demographics.
